In the past two weeks we’ve seen AT&T update their business service plans to include the iPhone and the rumor was that Lotus Notes would be making an appearance on the hipster gadget of choice. Unfortunately it looks like either the Associated Press misunderstood comments made by IBM officials about the products launch or due to the upcoming release of Apple’s iPhone SDK, a slight suggestion might have been made to suspend the launch until afterwards. While Lotus Notes is probably not the resource tool of choice for many iPhone users, the excitement lies behind it being the first application developed using the iPhone SDK.
With the story being bounced back and forth, it appears that the later of the two possibilities holds true. Why would Apple want to share the spotlight surrounding the release of the iPhone SDK with IBM, regardless of the business credibility that this would give them. What’s unfortunate here is that the poor IBM spokespeople have had to flip flop on their stance on where this application sat in the production table.
Lotus Notes fans need not worry, after the SDK launches you’ll surely be able to get your hands on that application. You may want to utilize this time to prepare your IT department for the headache that will ensue, as many already owning iPhones probably have little use for this application, I’m sure you’ll find plenty of people switching over.
