Ok Steverino, you managed to swing this one by without anyone seeming to throw a fit. So it looks like the iPhone SDK will be delayed 9 days, being released to the public on March 6th. The spin put on the delay was that the media would be receiving it first and then presenting their developments at the “iPhone Software Roadmap” event (aka SDK Release Event). Everything will be kicking off at around 10am PST on the 6th so check back here for further updates.

An Open Letter To Steve Jobs: iPhone SDK Looks To Be Delayed

Dear Mr.Jobs,

I would love to say that I have high hopes of seeing you release the SDK within the next three days, but honestly I don’t. Having experienced lack luster updates since it’s initial launch, I often pondered if the reason we didn’t receive useful features for our iPhones. Was it out of greed to sell software through iTunes as many suggested or was it due to a lack of actual development? Unfortunately I don’t receive enough love to have than answered directly.

Tomorrow many expect you to announce the delay of the iPhone SDK, but I believe you’ll have some excellent spin to make us think otherwise. Just as you have done to the early adopters before hand, you will cast your Leopard magic over us to calm our angsty and woeful feelings. But the truth is, you’re losing us.

You’re losing us Steve. It looks like Zibri just loves us more. With the amount of effort him and the rest of the modding community have done, it’s hard to not dabble in their sacrilegious waters. It seems like the only thing they haven’t offered us yet, to join the Dark side, is cut and paste. But as you have yet to do that for us either, are they really the Dark side?

Best of luck on your big announcement tomorrow. The old Steve would have delivered on his promises. I don’t know about this new and improved Steve. He doesn’t seem so new and improved to me.

Is The iPhone Getting Adobe Flash?

Get ready for Flash? According to sources at Gearlive it is. It’s speculated that we may even see this active around the same time as the SDK is launched. The addition of Flash to the iPhone would open up many doors for both web and native applications. Unfortunately this isn’t solid information yet, so don’t get your hopes up to high. We’ve heard time and time again that necessary and useful features would be popping up and have been disappointed. Considering that the most recent firmware was set the stage for native applications to work with the iPhone SDK, it would be surprising to see them issue another firmware upgrade when their focus is clearly on getting software development going.

It’s interesting to see that Apple put all that effort into circumventing Flash at the initial release by having Youtube reformat their videos to tailor to the iPhone. I completely understand why Youtube went through with it, but on Apple’s part it was really just a stall for time. Perhaps the launch of the SDK will truly be the moment when the iPhone’s full potential is recognized. Right now, my Asus eee pc is far more useful business wise than my iPhone. But if these features actually come through, my life will be that much easier without have to search for a WiFi hotspot.
