The popular Push Notifications for iPhone have come again in a next firmware version. The previous version allowed applications to alert a user whenever an event takes place. It also helped getting around some problems caused by the ban on third-party apps that run in the background.

Though this exciting launch of the next firmware version was planned for September 2008, the delay was caused due to some problems with MobileMe and syncing. According to Apple, the beta version of iPhone firmware version 2.2.1 has been seen working with the push notification system.

The new push notifications for iPhone are beneficial for applications like instant messaging clients and other applications that have software running on a server to notify the user. However, push notifications don’t work for applications that need to be run constantly.
