Regardless of how scratch resistant the iPhone screen is, some owners just can’t be cautious enough. After watching the many video’s on YouTube of early adopters leaving the Apple Store and dropping their iPhone within minutes of exposing it to fresh air, I decided it would be a smart move to find some form of protection for my $600 gadget.
I didn’t want to make the iPhone bulky with a plastic/rubber case that would just collect dust. Nor was I interested in getting a leather case that would require me to take my phone out of the holder to make a call. Also, those leather cases wouldn’t even protect the iPhone if I dropped it when talking or fumbled it when pulling it out of the case. I read up on a few forums and found a really excellent option that would protect the iPhone without losing the sleek design and slimness that it had out of the box.
Best Skins Ever makes skins, not cases, for nearly every type of phone. The plastic covering they offer is the same material that they use to cover the edges of helicopter blades, so needless to say, it’s pretty tough. They cut each skin to exact measurements of the phone and they offer a protective layer for the front and the back.
After reading a few reviews on Best Skins Ever, I decided to give it a shot. It cost me only $7.99 and was at my house within the week. Applying it to the iPhone was fairly simple, but it was scary to read that I needed water to apply the skin. After I got over that fear, I slapped it on, let it sit for the time it told me, and my phone was a lot more secure without giving up it’s cool look.
If you’re worried about the quality, keep in mind that I ordered one for my iPhone and two other skins for different model phones. After having my skin on my iPhone for a week, I noticed weird lines on the front of the skin. All it took was an email to BestSkinsEver.com and they sent out a brand new skin, no questions asked. None of the other ones I had ordered had even the slightest problem and are holding up very well. The only issue I ran into was I dropped my iPhone while taking off the old skin to apply the new. Good thing it was only on pavement….
There are a few other companies that offer a similar product but for a much more expensive price. Some of them even offer a lifetime warranty. The thing is, this material seems to hold up well enough that you don’t really need to pay extra for that warranty unless you decide to attack it with a knife (which would most likely damage your iPhone…). I recommend saving the extra money for the upcoming applications that will be released after the SDK goes live.
