The International Consumer Electronics Show, held recently in Las Vegas, saw the Paris company Parrot introduce its AR.Drone. The accessory would help iPhone users to fly a helicopter apart from the unending list of things that they can do with their iPhone. The AR. Drone is a foot long plastic and foam helicopter that can be remotely operated from your iPhone or iPod touch screen. The copter is connected to the iPhone via Wi-Fi and has two cameras which are placed on its belly and on its nose respectively.

The former calculates the speed while the latter does the streaming of its field of vision to the screen of your iPhone. There are plans to release games that would be similar to the ones viewed from the AR.Drone and merge the real world with increased realism. This implies that you would have the copter fighting virtual objects like robots on the screen of your iPhone. Henri Seydoux, the founder and the CEO of Parrot believed that the AR.Drone would appeal to the people as unlike the usual video games, users can play even outside with it.

The AR Drone has been under development for many years and has single as well as two player mode. In single player mode, the users can play against the system while in two player mode two users can pit their copters against each other. With the autopilot feature, the helicopter can take off and land automatically and although set to be launched in the market this year, the company has not made public the price at which it would be available.
