ZiPhoneYesterday we showed you how GeoHot managed to unlock OTB iPhones running 1.1.2 or 1.1.3. Although the guide in there would allow anyone with time or experience to achieve the unlock, Zibri from iPhone-Elite has created ZiPhone to handle the bulk of the work for you. Using ZiPhone means that you don’t even have to downgrade to 1.1.1 firmware for this to work anymore. But it doesn’t stop at unlocking. ZiPhone can actually Jailbreak your iPhone along with the ability to repair your baseband for you as well. Zibri has made the program available for both OS X and Windows users so anyone can take advantage of this on your brand new 16gb iPhone. With the SDK launching this month, the cat and mouse game may actually slow down long enough for people to enjoy their jailbroken or unlocked iPhones without having to sacrifice new features

*UPDATE* Check out Zibri’s blog for the new version of ZiPhone 1.1. Apparently all you have to do is run the program , nothing else!

The famous George Hotz (aka GeoHot) has managed to do it again. If you have found yourself trapped with 1.1.3 out of the box on your new 8gb or 16gb iPhone and where hoping to unlock it, you’re in luck! After claiming that this feat would be impossible, GeoHot spent 24 hours to prove himself wrong and apparently he succeeded.

Unlock your iPhoneIf you’re looking for a full guide to  soft unlock your iPhone, you’ll want to either check out GeoHot’s Blog or the ModMyiFone Forums. Both include full detailed guides that will lead you through the process, making it very easy for you to accomplish this task. Although, just as both of those sites will tell you, you need to follow all of the directions completely or you may risk bricking your iPhone.

With the recent launch of the 16gb iPhone shipping out with 1.1.3 firmware, expect to see a slue of these things all over ebay, regardless of which countries are selling the it domestically.

Text Your Fix Order Messages Out, Mixed Results

Out Of Order Text Messages If your iPhone updated to version 1.1.3 and left you with out of order text messages, Apple has issued a document on their site that claims it will fix the problem for you. Stemming from what they believe to be an inconsistency between the internal clock and the carrier clock. The fix according to them? Simply turn off your Automatic Date / Time Updates and all will be solved. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the case. From my own personal experience, I had it on Automatic and found myself with out of order text messages. I reformatted my iPhone twice and still had the issue. When this guide finally came out, I was pumped to hear that a fix was in sight, but unfortunately, turning this feature off did nothing but cause me to get to wake up 5 minutes earlier than I needed to.

Apparently I’m not the only one with this issue. According to forums and blog posts all over, the results are proving to be mixed, as some people are ending up with their text messages properly configured. What does that mean for the rest of us? Perhaps a trip to the Genius Bar will wind me up with one of those phones that isn’t effected by this issue.

Was Updating to iPhone Firmware 1.1.3 Worth It?

Hopes that Apple would provided iPhone and iPod Touch users with worth wild features and fixes in the newest firmware upgrade where dashed rather quickly on January 15th. While many had hoped for even a simple copy and paste function, it would seem that Apple had other things on their agenda, specifically getting the two devices ready to handle what would come from the SDK release in February. But dashing hopes wasn’t all that iPhone firmware 1.1.3 has done, it also has managed to cause some pretty serious and annoying issues that you usually expect a firmware to fix, not create.

This new firmware sports a few interesting new additions. iPhone users can now enjoy the luxury of texting multiple contacts at once, a function standard in nearly all cell phones today. You can also completely move around all of your icons by simply pressing on any one of them until they shake, then drag them around that page or even on to another one. Until the SDK comes along you won’t have a real need to utilize more than one page with the standard icons, but thanks to the newest feature allowing you to add bookmarked icons directly to your home page, you might have a need for a page or two if you’d prefer never to open the favorites button in your

iPhone Firmware 1.1.3

The Google Maps application received a majority of the love from this update, most notably its newest ability to triangulate your location using nearby cell phone towers. Although I don’t recommend using that feature while driving as its radius isn’t quite exact, it helps a lot when you’re trying to figure out exactly where you are. They have also made it possible to place your own pins on the map, making it much easier to figure out how to get to your destination from that dead end street you took a wrong turn on to. And if those features weren’t enough for the Google Maps application, you can new view a hybrid map.

Unfortunately users are reporting all sorts of errors from both the installation process and after the fact as well. Issues with installation seem to be geared around iTunes version 7.6, but mostly the problems occur after the installation. The most common issue seems to be that messages sent and received show up out of order within that specific chat session. This can be mildly confusing when trying to reference a few hours or days back in your conversation. Many have also reported that the internal speaker has also cut out for them along with several Bluetooth devices failing to work even though they were fine in 1.1.2.

While the new features add some depth to the JesusPhone, many of us are still left wondering when we will get cut and paste. With the SDK around the corner, perhaps a third party application will beat Apple to it. But honestly, I’d prefer that my iPhone caught up with the technology that every smart phone already offers.
