The tariff details and the launch date for the iPhone 3G and 3GvS was announced by Vodafone recently. The iPhone 3G S has been claimed as the fastest iteration of the Apple’s iPhone. It followed up the iPhone 3G which was released in 2008 and is still available on sale. The Apple hardware would be made available for the Vodafone customers on 14 January 2010. The pre orders have already been taken by the mobile operator.

The year 2009 also saw Apple’s contract with O2 for the handset coming to an end. The iPhones will now be sold by Vodafone, Tesco and Orange as announced. Users can get their hands on iPhone with Vodafone’s network from £30 per month. It would be a two-year contract. The amount would be £35 per month for consumers who wish a free 16GB iPhone 3G S for two years. The contract is for 18 months at £80 monthly for those who wish to have 32GB iPhone 3G S. The lowest tariff for the business users is £30 (VAT extra) every month.

The iPhone 3G is available for free for all business tariffs but SMEs who wish to get a 3G S have to sign a two year contract at £40 each month with VAT charges extra. The business users would get their hands on the iPhone directly with network of 20 dealers across the country. The limit is 1GB per month for the data across all business and consumer tariffs. The iPhone was available for sale on the Orange network last month and the first day saw 30,000 handsets being shifted by the operator.

The first thing you have to do is to compare competing carriers’ coverage:

• choose the carriers in your region;
• ask and consult your friends and colleagues about the carrier they use. And ask them to be so kind and perform an interesting test – to call somewhere while at work. Thus you’ll be sure that your office is not a dead spot;
• find out if the carrier ensures data services you are going to use. For example, e-mail, Internet and etc.

Choose the best service plan:

• think about your needs. If you are not a traveller a national plan is as welcome as water in your shoes;
• view the opportunity of buying pay as you go phones – it is rather cheap and very convenient decision;
• pay attention when you use your phone more – during day time or at night;
• remember where you call. Some carriers offer great discounts when you make long distance calls;
• don’t forget to ask about standard features (I mean call waiting, voice mail and etc.) Your plan should include them for free;
• choose the plan that ensures rollover minutes;
• be careful and ask about rounding up. Since it is not very pleasant to have a 3-second-conversation and to pay for a minute;
• find out about mobile broadband presence;
• be sure that your package has a low cancellation fee, otherwise you will stay with it for a long period of time!

The only issue that iPhone users will run into is that even though you are allowed to upgrade your existing plan to this new service mid contract; you are still required to keep your $20 unlimited data plan. Hopefully all of you iPhone owners read the fine print that stated you were not only signing into a 2 year voice contract but also a seperate 2 year data contract. While $20 isn’t a lot when you think of how much this can save avid cell phone users, adding on another $20 for unlimited text messaging will bring you to a whopping $139 per month. If you’re a business professional on the go, this might be exactly what you need.

You can head on over to the AT&T website to change your existing plan. Simply sign into your account and change your voice calling plan to the newly listed “Unlimited” plan for $99. If you’re mid month, they will pro-rate the rest of your month so you shouldn’t end up paying more than $99 for the calling over all. I guess it’s time to say bye-bye to rollover minutes.
